dog heart diseaseYou may not easily notice it but if you beloved pet dog is quite old already then he may be suffering from a heart disease.  It is not really something to be seriously worried about because dogs have their own mechanisms in dealing with it but as a pet owner, you do have the responsibility to play a part in taking good care of his health. If you notice the most commons symptoms such as dry cough, lack of energy, loss of appetite, and longer sleeping times, then you may have to bring your dog to the veterinarian for a check-up.

The dog’s heart has four chambers and these are divided into two pairs.  Should any of the valves in the heart malfunction, the rest of it would try to cover its part.  This anomaly would usually result into congestive heart failures. Dogs rarely have heart attacks.  However, you may sense any sign of this at first but as time passes by without having your dog checked by the vet, the disease can grow worse.

There are two possibilities on how your dog gets the disease. One is congenital and the other is acquired out of old age and infections.  However, most cases are caused the latter.  The older the dogs become the more susceptible for them to get it because of the normal wear and tear.  Others have experienced injuries or infections that may affect badly their hearts’ function.

Your doctor will probably prescribe medicines for your ailing dog.  However, you will have also to make sure that your dog is fed with nutritious food also.   Aside from the good diet, you may also let him take food supplements that are rich in vitamins.
